So. I just got a set of notes from dA admins - they removed 'Top Gear Meets Mudkip' because of copyright theft. Apparantly, someone reported it as art theft.

O.o

Last time I looked, making a work of parody, using a meme, using a still from a TV show and a Pokemon, wasn't art theft. Ok, dubious on the copyright thing, I'll give it that, but if that non-profit bit of fun can be taken down on that ground, then I want every single piece of fanart and other derivitave work on here taken down too, because then that's no different, is it?

Did dA pay the creators of Pokemon money when they did their ridiculous Mudkip meme joke for April Fool's? I highly doubt it. Will dA remove every other picture or drawing of a Mudkip? Again, I highly doubt it.

Still, it was just a ridiculous photomanip I made in 5 minutes during a dumb convo with my friend that somehow managed to garner thousands and thousands of views for reasons I can't quite comprehend, and gained hundreds of print requests that I find even more difficult to believe actually happened. Good times, man; good times.

RIP, James May/Mudkip Pokemon trainer macro. Your odd, human/'mon love will forever live on in our hearts...!

Now all that's left to do is find which torn-faced, greeting ol' bugger reported it and slap them with a salmon...

People have happy trigger fingers. Its far to easy to report something without much behind it. Someone on here got their own artwork treated as a violation for art theft. Despite everything was mentioned. That artist had done that image for a card game a couple yrs back I believe. But it was reported as stolen artwork. Despite in the description the artist mentioned it was from said card game. Really dumb. And done like all his other pieces in the same exact style. But luckily that was resolved.

In your case. It is rather ridiculous. Since wouldnt every single fanart on here would be considered copyright violations? Since I would think every fanart piece is more or less a violation since I dont think people have gotten the permission to draw those characters. But it is sad. Cause to often things are reported without just cause.
